Implementation and evaluation

The plan

Session organisation

In this first session, the pupils are introduced to the teaching unit. First, they play a short game to learn the word "penfriend" and they watch a video that explains what they will have to do during the following weeks. Also, the children record a presentation video about themselves to share with the other school and they are told the name of their penfriends. Finally, they are taken a picture, so that their penfriends can better get an idea of what they look like

In the second session, the pupils watch the video of their penfriends. They have been asked to bring an object that has a sentimental value for them. They will have to explain what it is and why it is important to them using the worksheet Object description sheet I or II. They can also make a drawing of it. They must keep into account that their penfriend needs to be able to understand what they are trying to say.

Let's meet our penfriends

2

The third session is devoted to finding out about our penfriends through their objects. The teachers will have exchanged the objects the pupils brought to class. The learners will have to figure out which object belongs to whom using the information of the worksheet. Then, they are asked write each other a letter thanking their penfriend for sharing with them something that is meaningful to them using A letter to our penfrient I or II.

In the fourth session, the students explain how they would like to be if they were superheroes and why. They do so using My superhero dreams worksheet and Superhero gadgets and powers vocabulary list. In this case, however, instead of giving their penfriends the worksheet, they record the sentences they wrote in an attempt to practise their speaking skills.

If I was a superhero...

The fifth session is devoted to finding out about their penfriends through their superhero dreams. They will listen to the recordings, so that they can also hear their penfriends voices and practice their listening skills. With it, they fill the worksheet My friend's superhero dreams and illustrate what they hear.

The sixth session is devoted to making a gift for their penfriends. The one suggested is a card. The cover contains the message To my friend, X! From Y. Inside, there is an image of both superheroes, side by side and a small card with an adjective poem created using the letters of the penfriend's name as the first letter to postive adjectives (using these cards) There is a list of adjectives in Nice adjectives for our penfriends. In the card there are also some sweets and a farewell letter.

6

The last session is a farewell session. First of all, the pupils reflect on what they learned during the session doing a short quiz. The pupils share their opinions about the project and receive the gifts from their fellow pupils, and a participation certificate (Final certificate).

If there is enough time, the pupils can have a skype session with their penfriends. I planned to do it in groups because this way interactions are more natural that if it is done in whole group.

Goodbye
